Trip to the Dentist

As this year is being planned as my last year of employment, Wilma and I are catching up on all of our Dr. and Dentist appointments.

Wilma paid a visit to the Dentist on Thursday. She was scheduled to have a crown put on a molar. But after a close examination the Dentist had to extract the tooth! She said after it was numb, she received a breath of “gas” to relax her. This did the trick for her, and she made it through this traumatic experience with flying colors.

I waited on her as much as need be. She mostly slept, with the help of the pain medication that was prescribed. Today she is doing much better. Carefully eating food now, making sure to just chew on the “good” side of her mouth. She is scheduled to return to the dentist March 22nd. I also am scheduled to go to the dentist March 26th.

I went with Tina yesterday afternoon to Micro Center computer store where she purchased her very first laptop. She asked if I would take it home to install Firefox and anti virus on it for her, which I did. It took close to 4 hours to burn the “Recovery DVD’s” remove all the “junk ware” install Firefox and Microsoft Essentials as her anti virus, and Open Office. This afternoon I took it over to her and showed her a few “pointers” on how to use it. I figure that in the near future I will be introducing her to the wonderful world of Picasa, and Gmail.

Also yesterday afternoon I sold my tow dolly. Listed it on Craigslist about 10 days ago. I had about 6 different inquires on it and 3 of them were very interested. The first guy that came to look at it bought it. I feel I gave him a good deal and I made just shy of $50 from what I was asking. Not bad for either of us. I was just happy to see it go! Now the money I have from that sale will go toward having a tow bar installed on my Malibu in the next month or so.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless

Angels Surprise Birthday Party

Saturday night was the date set for Angels “Surprise” Birthday party. And I have to say it went perfect.

Wilma and I had first started planning on giving Angel this surprise party a couple months ago. When we had the date set, Wilma went to work notifying all those who would be in attendance.

She also planned on what the theme would be, how much food and snacks would be available, and just about everything else associated with making this party a huge success. All I had to do was pick Angel up at a given time and make up a story to get her to go into the basement. Actually, my job was the very easiest!

The guests started arriving around 6:15, I was supposed to pick Angel up at 6:50pm. But I didn’t get to her place until almost 7pm on purpose.

After picking Angel up at her home, my fib, I mean my story begins.

“Angel, we are running a little late, Mom is still at home getting ready, and you know how I am about being late! Especially when I have reservations already made”. (Wilma told her we were taking her out to a very fancy place where we will have dinner and entertainment, nothing more.)

As I turned down my street, cars lined the street on both sides. So not letting Angels’ mind work and her guess, I said, “Looks like one of the neighbors is having a party or something, must be one of these two neighbors”, as I pointed to their homes where their porch lights were on. Perfect I thought, the neighbors homes were lit up like a Christmas tree. They really did look like they both were expecting company. Angel never thought different. At least if she did, she didn’t say anything.

As we pulled into the drive my story continued:

“Angel, you might as well come in the house, I don’t know how much longer your Mom is going to take getting ready, and I have to change into my leather dress shoes.” (I had on a new pair of tennis shoes).

As she followed me to the house and I opened the door, my story continued:

“Angel, would you do me a favor and run downstairs to turn off the clothes dryer while I run upstairs to get Mom and my shoes.” I didn’t look back at her for fear of giving it away, I had her just a few steps from being surprised.

I headed around the corner of the room, and I could hear Angels footsteps going down the basement stairs. I thought to myself, she is such a sweet kid. Never in her life has she ever questioned a favor I have asked of her, she just does it!

So a few seconds later…..basement lights were turned on…..and everyone yelled out, SURPRISE!!!

We think she went into a shock because she said she didn’t remember hearing everyone yell SURPRISE. But from the look on her face, she did, just couldn’t recall it. ha ha ha.

The party commences. What an assortment of friends were there to help celebrate her Birthday. There were friends of Wilma and mine that Angel grew up knowing. There were friends from when she was in school. There were even some fellow workers that she knew from past jobs.

The party lasted about 5 hours. Everyone had a great time, especially Angel!

Wilma, with the help of our friends, made sure there was plenty to eat and snack on.

I don’t believe anyone went home hungry, I know I ate way too much!

DSC_0062It was fun for all of us, watching Angel open her gifts. And she did get an assortment of gifts, from “gag” gifts to “great” gifts.

While she was opening her gifts, she commented how she remembered when she was watching her Mom open her gifts at her 40th, Birthday party. Now she is the one having the 40th. Birthday party and opening gifts. Wow how weird this makes me feel was her exact words.

It was a little bit stressful these past weeks, keeping this from you and hoping we would not give it away. All in all, it was worth every bit of the stress to make this happen.

I hope we all made your Birthday Party one to remember.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless

Blog Face lift

I have taken the plunge to experiment with a “face lift” for my blog.

I noticed on quite a few blogs that I follow how the page goes clear across the computer screen. Liking this style, but not knowing how to accomplish it, I emailed Laurie from I remembered awhile back that she had given this information to another blogger, Al from , but with my feeble mind, I couldn’t remember what or how to do it. So this prompted me to write to Laurie. She responded, and as you now see my blog has a new face lift. Thanks Laurie.

Another change I am taking a plunge into is the new feature of Blogger called “Pages”. This was first brought to my attention when Chris from told about it. It’s still a work in progress, but I think it adds a little more information about us for everyone reading this blog. The only thing I have found about the “pages” is that you cannot create or edit them through Windows Live Writer. Boo Hoo.

Tomorrow Wilma and I are taking our eldest daughter, Angel, out for an evening of entertainment to celebrate her 40th. Birthday. OMG, my kid is turning 40! Yikes, I’m getting old before my time!  I can’t get into where we are going, as we told her it is a surprise, and I know she probably reads this blog. Wilma and I are looking forward to Saturday evening with our Daughter Angel. I will write about it in the next few days.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Tax time for our family

This weekend was designated to doing the taxes for my family with Turbo Tax.

Starting with Dad on Thursday evening. His was completed within an hour. I called him telling him I would bring the finished taxes and his paper work over sometime this weekend. He insisted on coming over to pick them up on Friday, which he did. He was completely amazed at how the “computer” can do those taxes in such a short time. I told him it was nothing like when Mom and I used to sit at the kitchen table for hours on end reading, figuring, and filling out the many forms by hand. Then the following evenings going over our work making sure we didn’t make any mistakes. It really amazes me also how much better computers have made our life. It fascinates me to think how much better computers will make in the lives of my grand children and their children.

I had a paid day off from work on Friday, so I called Tina to see if she would come over with her information that I would need for her taxes. Around noon she was sitting beside me at the computer. Within an hour or so we had her taxes completely finished. She is totally amazed also at the amount she is getting back. It kind of smoothes out the rough edges she has encountered through this past year.

Today, Saturday, it was Angels turn. Once again she sat next to me as we filled in the questions asked. And like her sister Tina, she was amazed at how much she was getting back.

Wilma, working on house work downstairs, said she could tell when we got to a certain part of the forms, as she heard each of the girls shout out, “Yea! All right! No Way! Is this for real!!!” I would only say, I can’t doubt the computer programs, we put in the info it asked for and it tells us what you receive. Very nice. Within an hour, maybe a little longer, we were done with Angels.

Then this afternoon I did ours. Again and hour and a half and it was completed. Turbo Tax makes it so easy, its hard to believe you didn’t skip something. So after completing it, just before electronic filing it, I would save it and start over. I only do this just to double check the steps, and make sure I didn’t leave anything out. Everything looked great so it was electronically sent to the IRS. I already received a response from Turbo Tax that my forms were sent successfully, and they will be received on Monday Feb. 15th. and I should have my refund deposited in my checking account within 8 days.

However, the great State of Michigan wants to charge me $20.00 to electronic file my returns! No thanks, I will just print them out and snail mail them. Then they can have someone open the envelope, go over the forms, issue a check and mail it to me. This process should take about 6 weeks. Go figure, especially when there was an article in the paper last week with the Governor looking at ways to raise taxes to cover expenses!

Now I’m not for putting people out of work, but we really have to come up to this 21st century already. Do like the IRS does and let the computers do the work. This E-Filing and electronic deposits is really the way to go in my opinion.  Do you hear me Governor?!?!

Ok enough, I’ll get off the soap box now.

So, all in all, it has been a great weekend. Now if the sun comes out and melts this 6 inches of snow we have, it would be even better!   :-)

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Snow? What snow?

For two days now the weather man has been predicting that we are going to get 8 to 10 inches of snow by Wednesday morning, along with 30 MPH winds.

Here it is Tuesday night and we only have about 3 inches of snow. Very little wind.

But who’s complaining? Surely not me!

Come on summer, bring on the heat!
